Case study: Cape Quarter

Weave Energy had a remit to achieve real energy savings without sacrificing the ambiance of this upmarket shopping centre in Cape Town City Centre. Weave Energy undertook a large scale lighting retrofit in the common areas of the Cape Quarter Square and Piazza. Over 3000 fluorescent and halogen dichroic globes were replaced by LEDs reducing the Cape Quarter’s lighting cost by 70%. The results to date show an average monthly saving of R65,000, which equates to an annual saving that is marginally higher than the forecast R743,000 in year 1. Weave Energy also garnered a significant rebate from Eskom, which helped reduce the payback on the project to under 2 years.
